about

Dublins finest are back with 11 more tracks of skull-crushing heaviness!

Carrying on where In The Suns Dead Rays left off, Bloodfire Sunset will leave you beaten and broken as the lads whip through 11 tracks of sheer aggression!

Again featuring the stunning and tortured artwork of now regular Underground Movement artist, Sean Fitzgerald!

Zero Tolerance
Sincerity is one of the most important elements in music I love, when it's mixed with talent, originality and lyrical intelligence, it's a lethal combination, because there's a lot happening in the real world.
While Coldwar aren't afraid to hit the accelerator pedal, it's when they hit a heavy Celtic Frost-groove that they really shine. 'Vatican'
is a prime example of this, and especially for an Irish band, this is an important topic. Word of truth follows the crushing grooves, laying waste the religious hypocrisy in their path. 'Zero' is a ferocious Punk-Metal onslaught, but it never looses that groove. If I had to pick a stand out track it would 'Enter Darkness', but any song on this could serve as a fitting soundtrack to the carnage and lies we are daily numbered with by the news. An album that makes you think.
Respect! Highly recommended to those who think for themselves.

MetalCore Fanzine
Awesome death metal in the vein of Pestilence and Obituary. The vocals are total death and the riffs heavy as fuck and the music is brutal as hell. The production totally crushes and the guitar sound does'nt get much heavier than this.

It's a crime that this band is'nt signed.

Born In Blood
Coldwar have always been one of Ireland's heaviest live acts but were always cursed with poor production when it came to release time. Now they are back with their strongest material to date, can they now finally take the final step and produce their power on cd and elevate them to levels they could only have dreamed about when they started out all those years back.
Blood fire Sunset is the 3rd full length by the powerhouse five piece from Dublin.

Opening with more of Coldwar's hardcore/crust mixed with death metal that we've all grown to know and love 'Death of Birth' is a statement of what is to come, pure raw aggression on cd. The sludgy riffs of furnace really open the ears up to the proper Coldwar sound the songs is mixed with some nice lead work as the song then gives way to 'we are murder' a potential track of the album and a certain body crusher when it comes to the pit, I especially like the four bars of mad Trevor growling his lungs up about 4mins into the track before the instruments kick back in as the song fades out, it is definitely the most the atmosphere I've heard from Coldwar (or any other Irish dm band in quite some time).

The stand out track for me has got to be 'Enter Darkness' this is the most crushing song I have had the pleasure of listening too live everything about this song reeks of destruction, this is Coldwar, if you could only hear one track by this band let it be this, it. The pulverizing verse riff ploughs its way through everything right through to the atmospheric guitar break accompanied by the albums must fierce vocal performance. The end of the track picks up the tempo to produce probably the albums catchiest riff I can't overstate the importance of this track.

Unfortunately I have to say the album for me dipped in the middle I found myself tuning out for one or two tracks but I am only delighted to say it regained my hears again round about 'the culling'. This is the production that Coldwar have had to date but sadly for the lads it still doesn't capture their heaviness that produce live, the amps sound damped down which is a problem that will need to be addressed next time they record. In saying that though it is the best production they have ever had and will to them great things I do believe that.

All that is left to ask now is 'is an album I should buy?' answer being yes. If you're a fan of the band you should already have it and will agree its their best material and if your new to them tracks like: 'we are murder' 'enter darkness' 'furnace' 'preaching to the perverted' will be a pleasant treat to your ears. If you don't have this yet I suggest you go out and get angry with these Dublin mentalists.

Power Play
Coldwar has a fair few releases and since their earlier hardcore influenced songs, the band has slowly transformed into the metal realm. The death metal Coldwar play is dirty, thick and groove infused. 'Death of Birth' starts angrily with deep vocals and riffing blended with a groovy rhythm.

The structure is continued into 'Furnace' once it's blast start ends and the sludgy riff kicks in.The song offers some interesing guitar solo's and hooks that veer the song off into a great catchy realm.'We Are Murder' feels like doom metal due to the deliberately slow pace of the chunky riff, but is quickly overtaken by the bass drum work, making the guitar decide to play catch up with a thick impenetrable riff that reminds of Bolt Thrower.

'Spike My Eyes' is supremely dense stuff with a crusty riff carreering forward remorselessly, with only a very short interlude interupting it's progress before it's back to the dirty death metal. 'Bloodfire Sunset' sits comfortably in the death metal genre due to the heaviness of the music but also veers into sludge and doom metal areas.A quality slab of dirty death metal.

8/10

Organ Magazine
Brutally heavy old school Slayer flavoured thrash metal from deepest Dublin deliverd in style, attitude, a certain amount of class and just a hint of groove. A hardcore edge and the smell of punk infest this fine slice of quality old school extreme metal.

Nothing that different, they do their thing rather well though. Well worth your time and hard earned...

Crave Magazine
Merging the the wares of noise, scum and death metal together to form a colossal sounding 11 track affair, Ireland's Coldwar take a stab at the the incessant percussion and overall apocalyptic style similar to bands like Misery Signal and Dying Fetus while retaining their UK hardcore roots that stem from Discharge to Raging Speedhorn.

BLOODFIRE SUNSET is laden with an extreme metal undercurrent that leads the charge on slobberknockers like 'Enter Darkness' and 'Spike My Eyes'
keeping their focus honed in on acts like Obituary,Entombed,Sepultura and DRI for hints of how to successfully crossover without sacrificing an ounce of aggression.

Feel like taking a blunt object over the head repeatedly? Coldwar will graciously provide the soundtrack.
